NEW!   Many new changes have been made since our move to our new home, including images from "Grace and Favour" ("Are You Being Served? Again!").  The "Grace and Favour" pages have been completed, though I hope to have captures of improved quality up eventually.  Diana's Canteen is now OPEN and can be reached from the link at the left.  Another new feature is an index of the "credit shots" from each episode, which can be accessed via the "Fun Stuff" link.

This site is devoted to the classic British sitcom, "Are You Being Served?"  For those not in the know, AYBS? is set in Grace Brothers, a decaying, fictional, central London department store.  The main characters are the sales assistants of the Men's Ready-Made and Ladies' Departments, who have been forced to work together after the store reorganizes and places them on the same floor.  This, of course, results in daily skirmishes among the staff and occasional all-out war, but let an outsider threaten the status quo and the staff pulls together to become a formidable opponent!

"Are You Being Served?" was one of the most popular shows ever produced by the BBC.  Sixty-nine episodes were filmed during ten seasons, from 1972 to 1985.  Created by Jeremy Lloyd, who had at one time worked in Simpson's, a famous London store, and cowritten by David Croft, it proved to be so popular that an Australian version was produced during 1980 and 1981 with series star John Inman traveling down under to reprise his role of Mr. Humphries.  A stage version with five of the original castmembers was sold out in Blackpool during the summer of 1976.  "Are You Being Served? The Movie" was produced in 1977 and was based upon the stage play.  A pilot show for an American version, called "Beanes of Boston" was even made in 1979, but unfortunately, didn't sell.

A spinoff with several original castmembers, "Grace and Favour," ("Are You Being Served? Again!" on U.S. PBS stations) was produced in 1992 and 1993, and found the staff of Grace Brothers trying to turn a dilapidated old manor house into a hotel.

Since "Are You Being Served?" first debuted on U.S. PBS stations, it became an instant hit, gaining fans in all 50 states.  Along with many other British sitcoms, it remains a PBS favorite.
